The Role:

Due to continued growth, we are looking for a Principal Estimator to join a work-winning team to lead, develop and deliver an exciting and ambitious strategy for securing growth within the existing frameworks and building strategies for future frameworks. With a strong pipeline of future opportunities, underpinned by a strong existing order book, we are looking to recruit a high-performing team of Estimators to deliver this growth.

The role will require considerable engagement with our operational managers and key departments whilst working closely with our client United Utilities and will be the primary estimating lead on a large-scale programme of work for the delivery of key projects.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the approvals process to ensure that all bids have the necessary approvals in accordance with company procedures and governance sign offs for a compliant submission.
  • Prepare detailed analytical tenders and estimates from first principles within defined timescales.
  • Ensure that estimating procedures are followed in the production of each tender and project managed through to tender sign off and submission.
  • Maintain and update records of tenders, including change control, TQs and terms and condition queries and such like.
  • Generate and conclude the detailed risk assessment process on all bids specific to each complex project and on development use this for conclusion of the tender price submission.
  • Develop a library of outputs and pricing data for all infrastructure works with the current UU framework and proactively update this for cost build up functions.
  • Generation of hand over packs and facilitate handover to Operations team in detail to ensure both commercial model and risk and opportunities within each specific project is clearly and understood.


Skills and Experience

  • In depth knowledge of the NEC 3 & 4
  • In depth Knowledge of the Water Industry frameworks and CDM regulations.
  • Experienced within high value non- infrastructure projects in the Water/ Construction Industry.
  • Experience of multi discipline Framework (major) bids of varying complexity and scope, - preferable this would be heavily weighted towards Clean and Waste Water infrastructure and some involvement in Non infrastructure clean and waste.
  • Experienced within managing supply chain and framework contracts for key suppliers and engaging with key people to drive commercial agreements.
  • Have the ability to communicate complicated financial and contractual issues to senior management
  • Have experience of producing multi-disciplined high value, high quality tender submissions
